Senior Software Engineer
OSM Group works successfully with development of electronic products for consumers & industry, from idea to final end-product. With continuous growth OSM are now looking for an additional Senior Software Engineer to further strengthen the organization. You are a skilled software developer but should also have experience and interest in working in the interface between electronics & software.
THE COMPANY
OSM Group is a global company specializing in development and manufacturing of various electronic products and engineered soft goods. It is also one of the few similar companies working with the entire development chain, from an idea in the early stages to the manufactured end-product. Products developed and manufactured are for example various acoustic products such as headphones and hearing protection, but also radio communication equipment and electronics for home automation etc. OSM works with many well-known and strong brands not only in Sweden, but also in other parts of the world.
The office in Stockholm has nine very skilled employees with hardware and software developers sitting together in an open landscape. There is a well-equipped lab available for soldering, building prototypes and testing. Furthermore, the lab equipment can be used to generate signals and measure RF and audio, measure power consumption and testing of both electronics and prototypes.
OSM Group has its origins in Sweden, and also Swedish owners, and even though the company is headquartered in Hong Kong, employees in Sweden are always right in the core business and close to decision making. In China OSM Group has more than 800 employees, of which most are operators at various stations in the production lines. There is also, however, a development department with software, electronics and mechanical engineers, with whom you will have direct contact through the development work.
Please see the company's website for more information about the company: https://www.osm.group/
THE POSITION
This is a senior expert role within the OSM R&D organization in Sweden. This person will be the go-to resource for anything signal processing related. Both helping others and self-implementing; covering everything from filter design, control systems, audio processing, active noise cancelling, sensor fusion etc. This also includes feasibility studies, concept work, platform development and architectural choices for implementation.
You will work closely with the rest of the R&D organization to develop solutions, solve problems, implement solutions and develop advanced products using modern methods and solutions. There will also be frequent contacts and discussions with both customers and project managers to make sure that everyone understands the feasibility, risks, limitations etc. before the project start. As you are senior you can hopefully also step in as a mentor at times to the younger engineers in DSP development and problem solving. With your expertise and seniority, you will help building cross functional bridges between acoustics, electronics and general software.
The role requires some travelling to the Hong Kong HQ and Huizhou facilities now and then, as well as occasional international travels to customers, partners and other offices. The role has no direct reports but a large amount of authority on deciding platform/architecture for projects and what projects we accept, and under what premises, as well as how we execute them. For the right candidate this could be a steppingstone to a more senior R&D position with departmental responsibility.
THE CANDIDATE
To be successful in this role you should have deep, but also reasonably broad, experience within DSP development and embedded systems. OSM take pride in building technically outstanding products so apart from your expertise, you must have a genuine passion for technology and preferably also the ability to mentor, encourage, teach and develop younger talent within the company.
We believe you have an MSc or PhD in engineering in a relevant field, e.g., computer science, mathematics, electronics, physics; but actual knowledge is more important than formal education.
From a technical point of view these are things that you probably know/have done:
- You have experience from Git and automated build systems.
- You have worked on embedded platforms and small core MCUs like ARM Cortex M4F or similar.
- You speak C / C++ (almost) as good as your mother tongue
- You can design filters and understand signal theory
- You can implement code and memory effective DSP algorithms on different platforms
- Low latency signal processing is second nature
- you know more than just the names of common communication standards (I2C, UART, BLE, BT, LoRA, NB-IoT)
- You have an interest in all aspects of software development during the life cycle of a project, not just design, but equally important how to deploy in production and test, validate and secure the final product.
- You have successfully (or unsuccessfully) run an electronics (hobby) project and know how to debug using an oscilloscope and other tools. You probably did some soldering in the project as well.
- As all of our colleagues, you are willing to share with others what you know and have learned
- You speak Matlab or Octave and build simulations tools
- You have experience or interest in audio and sensors.
If you have experience from firmware development on Bluetooth chipsets from Qualcomm or any other Bluetooth chip supplier that is a big plus, but it is not a prerequisite. Same with Analog Devices SigmaDSP and Tensilica's HiFi 3z and 4 series.
The company language is English, so fluency in English is mandatory for this position. The office language at OSM in Sweden is Swedish, and although it is not a requirement that you speak Swedish today, we expect you to have a willingness and ambition to learn the language over time. If you have experience working with China, know Asian/Chinese culture/language or have an interest to learn, it is a plus but not a requirement.
SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS
OSM offers a challenging position in an international, innovative and growing company. Salary and other benefits will be offered in relation to the demands and expectations on the candidates, as well as the candidates’ background and experience.
